Training control line F2B model "Flying Submarine" of Yuriy Yatsenko

Training control line F2B model Flying Submarine of Yuriy Yatsenko Control line model Flying Submarine (the magazine scheme)

The first model, that gave me and Andrey the possibility to master the aerobatic program, was the model, built from the magazine scheme. It was very unusual.
The promise of good lines tension had clear my interest to create this model.
In the article was noted, that it was a model of French sportsmen, Cupri and Duca.
The model had symmetrical (according to the fuselage axis) vertical surface with lifting airfoil. As creator promised, it produced lifting force, enough for stability tension in every point of flying sphere. The fuselage configuration was like the contour of modern submarine body, this gave the name to the model.
2 bigger models with 5 cubic engines “Micron-29” were built, but they had medium flying capacities. However, the smaller model with 2.5 cubic engine, had very good flying characteristics, and Duca was prize-winner of many events in 1969 with this model.
Knowing from the start experience, how important it was to have the strong tension, I had built this model for experiment. It was a contour fuselage model. The effect was so outstanding, that it had become the main model for my pupils teaching by this time. Lifting fins extra area gives magic effect of enough strong tension, as on a big model. Also this model forgives overhead mistakes. Even pupil turns the model very sharp overhead, and it loses the speed, it does not come down, it lifts up the nose to zenith direction, increases the speed and continues the maneuver.
It was the first experiment with the side area of the fuselage, and its location. Now I am sure, the balance between the nose and tail area is one of most important model characteristic. My Classic has a big canopy, and placing of this canopy, as the result of Flying Submarine flying experience.
Shark has small nose lifting tunnel fin too. May be somebody will find this as the revelation or the discovery for himself.

Duca model parameters from article:
Span- 1050 mm
Fuselage wideness 80 mm
Inside wing length (from the fuselage)- 500 mm
Outside wing length- 470 mm
Vertical fin construction- balsa spar 20 x10 mm, ribs 10 x10 mm.
Fin airfoil like Clark 5, 18-20 %.
Weight 700 g.
Engine 2.5 cc.
